Attendance and Punctuality

Attendance leaflet

Attendance policy

It is parents/carers responsibility to ensure your child is in school regularly and dropped off and collected on time!

The school day starts at 8.30am for morning nursery children and 8.45am for KS1 & KS2 children.  Afternoon nursery starts at 12.15noon.  Please ensure your child arrives at school promptly to avoid missing valuable learning time and disrupting their peers.

Attendance is extremely important and something which we monitor on a weekly basis.  We are working hard at Worth Valley Primary School to raise attendance, as this ensures children are in school and learning.  We cannot do this without the support of parents/carers.  If your child is to be absent from school please telephone us on the first day of absence .  Where no contact is received from parents, school staff may well attend at your property on the second day!

Our Attendance Officer, Mrs Barnes, is regularly in contact with those families who are struggling with issues surrounding attendance and we aim to work together to raise this.  In some circumstances it may be appropriate for a referral to be made to the Educational Social Worker.

If you have any issues surrounding attendance please contact Mrs Barnes to discuss as soon as possible.

Holidays / unauthorised absence in term time

It is not our policy to authorise holidays during term time, except for in exceptional circumstances.  We look at each request on an individual basis and fairly and consistently apply this rule.  In cases where parents/carers remove children from school without authority then we may issue a Fixed Penalty Notice.   This may also be the case whereby children are not regularly attending school, and no reason for absence has been provided.

Medical / Dental appointments

We would ask that you try and make these appointments outside of the school day.  However, where this is not possible we would request that you provide us with an appointment card/letter so that your child’s absence is authorised.
