We promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.

Our Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural provision (SMSC), our broad and balanced curriculum and our enrichment activities support the promotion of British values by enabling children to gain knowledge, understanding and skills of:

Democracy

  • Engage in democratic systems in school
  • Know about British system of government
  • Know about other systems of government
  • Respect democracy
  • Understand how citizens vote and how the electoral system creates legitimate governments
  • Understand how citizens can influence decision-making through the democratic process
  • Support participation in the democratic processes
  • Understand that there is a separation of power between the executive and the judiciary
  • Understand that some public bodies such as the police and the army can be held to account through Parliament
  • Understand why some public bodies such as the courts maintain independence
  • Have a broad general knowledge of public institutions and services in England

Rule of Law

  • Know and understand the basis for the school rules
  • Comply with the need to support and follow the school rules
  • Know difference between right and wrong
  • Appreciate that living under the rule of law protects individual citizens and is essential for their wellbeing and safety
  • Respect the civil and criminal law of England
  • Respect the basis on which the law is made and applied in England

Individual liberty
