Welcome to Year 4

AUTUMN 2

ENGLISH

This term, we will continue to develop prediction and comprehension skills.  We will be writing letters, instructions and doing lots of work around the story’s characters and setting. We will be spending time consolidating our word class knowledge, improving our handwriting and expanding our imaginations by writing a new chapter of our class novel.

 MATHS

In Maths, we are looking at addition and subtraction using the column method.  We will continue to look at how we can solve Maths problems in different ways using lots of resources and manipulatives to answer questions. There will be lots of opportunity to use Timestable Rockstars to improve our recall times.

 

DT (W.C 14.11)

In DT, we will be adapting a recipe. We will be looking at how foods are packaged to make them more appealing to the customer, conducting surveys among the classes and creating our own product.

 

 HISTORY

In history this half term our topic is The Roman Empire. We will research important facts and dates, explain why the Romans invaded and what their most significant achievements were.

 

PSHE

The children will continue to acquire the knowledge, understanding and skills they need to manage their lives, now and in the future.

 SCIENCE – ELECTRICITY

In science this half term, we will be looking at the history of electricity, how it is created and the impact it has on our lives.

 

 RE – LIGHT

In RE . we will be looking at the symbolism of light in Christianity.
